Arrival Time: Children’s Hospital Day Surgery will call you with a time the Friday before the procedure.

If your procedure is at the Fresno Endoscopy Center you should arrive 30 minutes before  your procedure time.


Esophagogastroduodenoscopy, Percutaneous Liver Biopsy, and Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy Preparation Instructions



*** Stop any blood thinners such as COUMADIN, WARFRIN, HEPARIN, LOVENOX, PLAVIX, and PERSANTINE 3 days prior and any ASPIRIN or anti-inflammatory drugs like ADVIL, MOTRIN, IBUPROFEN, CELEBREX, , MOBIC & 5 to 7 days prior to procedure. Tylenol is ok to take for pain, but do not take any pain medications the morning of the procedure.


*** Take all your medications while you are prepping for your procedure, except the ones listed above. Take your blood pressure, asthma, seizure or heart medications. All other medications can be taken after your procedure. If you are on insulin, discuss adjusting your dosage on the day of the procedure with your endocrinologist.


*** Morning Exams:  Nothing to eat or drink after 12:00 midnight the night before.

You can drink water up to 4 hours prior to the procedure.

Please do not glue in your dentures or partials, because we will ask you to take them out.


*** Afternoon Exams: No solid foods after 12:00 midnight the night before,

and only liquids until 8:00am the morning of the procedure.

(Absolutely no dairy and Ensure products, or anything with red or purple dyes).


*** Bring reading glasses if needed to read and sign consent forms.

***You will be sedated for the procedure and will need to bring a designated driver

with you. No operating heavy machinery, or other work requiring mental

alertness for 24 hours after the  procedure.
